Great Idea??? or not....

I know there is "Run application after last slide....". However, I just noticed that I would like to have the ability to "Run application after Exit".

For example, I have a Menu show that has 3 buttons to run individual slideshows. From the Menu show, you can start any of the 3 slideshows. Then, I have each slideshow Run the next slideshow so it basically loops around until someone stops it. I would like the ability to return to the Menu show when any of the shows are exited or stopped. But I don't see this as a possibility. When stopped it just goes back to the computer's file screen.

It there any way of doing this now in 4.48 or 5.x? Or maybe this can be a new feature in future versions???

It available in v4.48 not officially:

Open .pte project file find opt_runapponexitiflastslide parameter and set it 0 instead of 1

Now "Run application after last slide" will work as you expect.

Igor... Thanks for the reply. I changed the line as you stated, however, an Exit does not return me to the Menu show. It still goes back to the computer's file screen. Maybe I misunderstood. I changed the line in the primary slideshow only. Did you mean that I should change the line in the Menu show??? Thanks... Gary

Add later... P.S. What happens is that it jumps to the beginning of the next slideshow, then exits back to the computer's file screen. But does not go to the Menu show.

Gary,

What I've done in the past is have the main menu NOT Exit when the client selects an option to go to another slideshow. Then when that slideshow ends or is exited, the menu is still up and running. In my main menu, I place a button to exit and then that cleans everything up when they are ready to end the show(s).

I hope this helps a little.

Fred

p.s. - The only problem with this method is that you can not have any background music playing on your main menu. Good luck!

Fred... I don't quite understand how you are keeping the main menu up and running after you choose to play one of its slideshows. I tried changing both Mouse button actions to "None". That did not help. I do have the main menu file in the "Run application after last file". Not sure how you keep the main menu up.... Can you explain further??? Thanks.

Not sure but I think it's :

Project Options > Main tab

Choose "When show ends keep last slide in show on screen"

And for the button to exit this show :

Object editor > Add button > Properties > Action on mose click : Exit.

I looked and I already have "When show ends keep last slide in show on screen" checked. When I run a slideshow or the menu show with this item checked, the last slide does stay on the screen...until the next slide show is run. Then it goes away. Gary

Gary,

Could you please run this little "Menu Test" I just made and tell me how it works ?

It works ok on my pc and it would be interesting to know if you have a problem on yours.

(unzip and double click on menu.exe)

Thanks. :)

Greetings... Yep, it worked just fine. I played the show and hit the ESC key and it went back to the Menu slide. And the Exit button worked to. I wonder why mine does not work....

Thanks for the demo. Gary

P.S. You did yours in 5.x. Wonder if there is a difference...since I am using 4.48.

Exactly as Dominque explains above! That is how I've done it in the past also. I also add my visit my website and email me buttons on my main menu. That way they can contact me prior to hitting exit (if desired).

You might need to post your menu PTE file (not the .exe, the .pte) and someone can take a look at it. I'm heading out the door for most of the evening, but there are many here who can help.

Good luck!

Hi Fred and Dominque...

I am a bit baffled that Dominque's test Menu works but mine does not. I have attached the PTE file for my Menu file (is that the one you need to see?). If anyone can take a look at it and determine what might be causing the problem, I would be grateful. I am also wondering why Igor's suggestion did not work.

Thanks... Gary

Added Later: Hmmmm... I added an attachment but it does not show up. Can I attach a file to a reply???

Goddi,

Yes, the PTE file for your Menu file is the one we need to see.

To attach a file :

once you have choosed it (Browse...), don't forget to click on "Add This Attachment".

At the end you should have a message under this button, like

"You have used nn.nnK of attachment space for this post.

You have unlimited space left for this post."

If you did this correctly, maybe your file was not attached because it is too big.

I don't know the filesize limit but I guess it's less than 1 MB.

For menu, it's not necessary to call it at the end of each slideshow, you just have to don't stop it when you launch a slideshow. When the slideshow is finih, then the menu appears. It's what I did in Corsica and it's very simple to do (don't forget to use Granot's utilitiy "hidetaskbar" write by Marcovelo).

Yes.. I Browse and selected the file and I clicked on Add This Attachment...let me try again.

Gary

Added later... No, I don't see it. I got the grey bar to show as if it was uploading it but it does not appear. Maybe, I don't have permissions from the site to do any uploads. I looked around but don't see any way to ask to get such permission.

The file is only 16K. Not sure what is going on here....

Tried again to attach file...does not seem to be working...Gary

Strange.

As a member, I think you should have permission to attach file, no need to ask.

I think I found the problem. I guess you tried to upload your .pte file. Right ?

Actually, you have to upload a .zip file.

To make a zip file with your project :

File > Create backup in ZIP.

It will create a zip including the .pte project and all your images.

This is the file you have to upload. :)

Ok... I am going to try to attached just the PTE file as a ZIP to see if it works. Hopefully, you can look at this file and see what is going wrong....?

Thanks... Gary

Gary,

If you want me to have a look at your project, you have to upload the whole project including .jpg and .wav files, not only the .pte file.

You can use the "Create backup in ZIP" feature.

If your .wav files are too big, before creating the ZIP, you can remove them WITHIN PTE.

I tried to attach the ZIP, but apparently will not upload such a big file, about 6.5Mb. I stripped out all the sound files but it still is over 6Mb..... And this is with just the Menu file and just one of the 3 main shows. :( I can email it directly to you if that works with you???

I have to go out right now so I will check back later today.

Sincerly, Gary

Ok, Gary, I found the error you made.

I'm sure you gonna be ashamed ! :P

For "action on mouse click" for your buttons, you choosed "Run application and EXIT".

That's what PTE does, it runs the slideshow and exits the menu !

For your menu, you have to choose "Run application or open file... ".

An other suggestion for a perfect result :

- download HideShowTaskBar and unzipp the archive

(It's a tool to 'Hide TaskBar during PTE show' - Made by Marcovelo - Thanks to granot for hosting it and other great tools for PTE - Go visit http://www.thailandphotoalbum.com/)

- in PTE, for the first slide of your menu :

choose "Customize slide..." > "Main" Tab > "Advanced Options" > check "Run external application" and choose HideTaskBar.exe.

This way, you don't see the TaskBar. :)

An other suggestion for a perfect result :

I am standing in the corner for a while. :( I see what I did. I have 2 slides in the Menu show. Both exactly the same, except I wanted the 1st one to have one spooky sound to play and the 2nd one to have a different spooky sound to play, with a 1 second display time. So after it changed to the 2nd slide, I could use the mouse buttons to go back and forth to the 2 slides to recreate the halloween sounds until I started the main show. HOWEVER... In the 1st slide's 3 main show buttons, I had each slideshow buttons set to "Run Application or Open" and the 2nd slide's 3 main show buttons were set to "Run Application and Exit". So you are right, that is the conflict. Thanks... :D

Here is some of my confusion: When I read "Run Application and Exit", I am thinking it is saying "Run the Application and then Exit the Application" and then it would return to the Menu slide. If I now understand this correctly in this case, what it really means is "Run the Application and Exit the Current Slide (the Menu Slide)". It would make more sense if they were changed to "Run this Application and Exit the Current Slide" and the other, "Run this Application and Keep the Current Slide Open".

Yikes... I am having such problems with 4.48....just wait until 5.x is finalized....

Thanks very much for your help and others in deciphering my problem. I'll check out the HideShowTaskBar after I catch my breath with this project. Thanks.

Sincerely, Gary

think hawk told you that a couple days ago

ken

Yes, Ken....I did have it correct ("Run Application or Open") in the 1st slide of the Menu show, as Ken told me...BUT I forgot to change it in the 2nd slide that had it set to "Run Application and Exit". Sort of 'seeing the forest but not the trees' effect. I had thought I had changed both slides to the "...Open" choice. But there are so many setting that you have to get right, it can get confusing when something does not go right, especially when I have a Menu show to run 3 main slideshows. My brain can get confused pretty easily nowadays. But thanks to all here who have stuck with me to solve my problem.

Gary ;)
