A template to do a photo album

JPD

Recommended Posts

As I promised, here is the template "Screensaver.pte" of the photo album (56 photos), it's now abble to run on 32 Mb graphic cards.

It's a completly new one, lighter than "Elle le dit..." it use less than 25 Mo of memory.

You can use it to do screensaver with your own photos (family for instance) or put it (or only a part) in your slideshow. The explanation about how to use it are inside.

If an english spoken people could correct the english explanations and send them to me, I could put in the zip a better english explanation, my english is really poor.

You can also find this template on my page dedicated to PTE V5 were you can find many tests and exemples with V5. Most of them are in french, there is a good tool to translate here and Google has also a tool for that.

Great!

And I noticed you improved it: No more visual defects (you fixed the thin white line in the middle of the book).

Even if your template is very strict (number of pictures, size of the images,...) which might prevent some to use it (not "user friendly" enough ?), I really think it's amazing.

Congratulations Jean-Pierre!

A little question Jean-Pierre :

Why did you make the background picture ("Fond") the parent of the whole photo album ??

IMHO, it should be an independant object with no children.

This way, the user could use the image he wants for his background, change its ratio if he needs and whatever the resolution of this image, it wouldn't affect the size of the photo album.

Just a suggestion. What do you think ? :)

JP,

Thanks for all your work in setting this up! Very clever, and very well done!

I see now why the image moves slightly in relation to the frame - maybe Igor will design a "perspective" capability for us in PTE O&A, after the present design work is complete??? :)

I agree with Dom; it would be possible to copy all of the sub-objects, paste them onto the background, and then delete the old ones, thus freeing up the existing background image, but this would be quite tedious to do for each of the slides, and then have everything line up properly afterward.

Yes, it would be so useful !

That's what i called a "transformation" feature in PTE (the ability to move independtly the 4 corners of an object) in JPD's other post about his photoalbum (see here).

Igor, is it absolutely not feasible in a future version ?

I put only one picture as level one because I think that people will want to have there own background and want to change between 2 differents backgrounds when and where they want (for instance synchronisation with a music).

To do a transition between two backgrounds, you just have to add a second one at the bottom and to put the opacity of the top background from 100% to 0%, the change in the next slide the file in the top background.

You can also copy the object "Rectangle Fond couverture" and past it where you want you will have all the book, if you change the PZR parameters of this object, all the book will move, rotate or change of size.

I always put a picture or a rectangle as parent of all others objects because it's easier and it's a best quality to work at the same scale as are your pictures. The parent is use for the mode, if at the end I want fit to slide or Original, I have only one thing to change for all the slide.

Or you could simply replace the image "Fond" with any one of your choosing in the folder used for the images for the show, keep the name "Fond", and it will automatically be replaced throughout the project, whether it is the "main image" or one of the "objects".

That's right Al, I must say that somebody told me about my slideshow that change the background as I did wasn't a good idea because you need to look at the photos, not at the background, and I agree with what this person write me.

And if you change the size of Fond.jpg, you can change the size of the album very easily, I have make one mistake in this template, it would have been better to put everywhere Fond.jpg as main image in order to be abble to use the additionnaly options in the screen option.

Are you referring to the screen tab in project options? The way you did it is better for a demo, as one can readily tell which slides the different flower photos are associated with. If "Fond" were the main image, they would all look the same in the slide list.

which might prevent some to use it

It's not at all in my mind. If it was, I won't put the template on the net or I would have put a password, I never do that.

If somebody need only 10 pages (40 photos) for instance, as there are 2 photos each 3 slides he must kill 12 slides in the first part and 12 slides in the second part, so he select from slide 92 to 92 - 12 = 80 and kill the 12 slides then he select from slide 47 to 47 - 12 = 35 and kill the 12 slides he has selected.

Then he will have to change the files of images for the 2 slides in the middle of the slideshow just when appear the name and near the end when the title appears.

The most difficult is to change the position of all the objects call "Pile gauche" and "Pile droite", a simple solution is to replace the file "Pile-gauche.png" by a transparent file, there will not have the border on each side, but it's easy to do.

I haven't find easy solution, If you have an idea about, I can change the PTE file in order it's easier for those who want to use it.

Of course I can do several templates with 4, 6, 8, 10... 60 photos, but it's a lot of work for me.

Are you referring to the screen tab in project options?

Yes Al, but you are probably right also, so, I will put something about that in the explanations

Thank you for sharing your template of the Photo Album, it is a quite outstanding programme of work. I am here on the forum totally because of the wish to create a flipping pages Photo album like yours.

Of course, everyone will be using the template and requiring something slightly different. I am the same, whilst, I like the portrait format, I would really like to have a landscape effect, but not one that provides the landscape effect by covering two pages.

Is it possible to change any of the page sizes to provide this effect. In order to maximise the viewing size of the landscape effect, I would like the page that has been turned to be partly off the preview screen. Is this possible.

I did say that everyone would want different things and would wish to personalise the template.

Hi mightec,

I don't know if it's what you're looking for but I have a work in progress which might interest you :

The effect is much less impressive than JPD's template but the future template will give you the ability to use portrait and landscape pictures.

If you want an effect full screen like this this one, you don't need the Album template, it's done by using curling of page effect (the exemple was done a lot of time with V4.xx).

I work on a landscape format, but I have some problems and must find solutions.

I'll write about that when I find.

Thank you for taking the trouble to respond so quickly. I am having trouble getting through to the example, when I click this one I get an 'Address is invalid' page? Also very pleased to hear that you working on a landscape version, that will be something to look forward too.

This is also a great effect and something that I have been looking for, for sometime now. I like the way you can display a single landscape photo or two portrait photo's on the one page. I assume the next thing people will want is the ability to display multiple photo's on one page. When do you think the template will be available.

Mike,

I suspect this is using one of the standard transition effects available in version 4, called "Curling of Page / Rolling up from right".

JP,

Very classy! I like the selection of the background, and the frame around the photos. :)

It's the standard effect of PTE V4 and V5, Curling of page in english, I think. Everybody can do the same very easily.

Sorry Al and Ken, I didn't see your answers, you're probably right for the number of effect, I don't remember, but it's easy to try and find the good value to put on this effect.

Thanks for your comments, I look at a real album to do it.

There is one thing wich was possible with V4 and we can't do with V5, this album take all the screen for 4/3 and 5/4 screen ratio, it's impossible with V5, but with V5, we can limit the effect and have it only on the picture without having black parts with the effect which aren't nice to see.

is this achieved using PTE's standard effects or is it done in some other way?

Mightec,

It's a standard PTE transition effect. See here for complete explanations : http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums/index....ost&p=36499

When do you think the template will be available.

The template will be avalaible as soon as beta #9 is released. But I don't know when beta #9 will be avalaible. ;)

It uses the standard PTE transition effects for the flipping pages that everybody can use (see the explanations above) but add some simple additional effects, shadows and masks for a quick use without need to make any work in an external photo editor. It can be used for landscape and portrait pictures whatever their resolution.

If it can interest some of you. :)

I cannot keep away now, I am really very impressed by your photo album template. Just one further question, is is possible to change the number of images?
