Saved "last used image folder" in project file

Recommended Posts

At present PTE remembers the last used image folder ony at the system level. If I work on ProjectA using images from ImageFolderA, save that work and then open ProjectB, the folder tree still points to ImageFolderA. I have to manually navigate to ImageFolderB where the images for ProjectB are stored.

Wouldn't it be nice if the last used image file folder was stored as part of the project data; and then used to re-position the folder tree display when the project was opened? Now, in the scenario described above, when I open ProjectB the folder tree will be re-positioned to ImageFolderB.

I sometimes have as many as four or five projects at various stages of development. Although the time spent re-positioning manually is not great, it is a frustration when I know it need not be like this.

regards,

Peter

Yes please !!!

It has always bothered me that I have to go hunting for the folder when I open an existing project. It confuses the heck out of newbies when I am helping someone learn PTE.

Glad you suggested it, only question is why no one (including myself) had not suggested it before

Maybe my idea still has a chance then

the concept i practice and the one we recommend to newbies is

1 start a new folder with the proper name

2 copy and paste all pictures, music notes etc to that folder

3 open your pte program

4 select new

5 direct the progam to said folder

6 add pictures to the program

7 do a save as of the pte with the proper name to said folder

now whenever you want to add music, changes etc to said pte, the program should have the smarts to go to that folder for the material to add, not go to c drive looking for things.

Where to better store information about images folder:

1) In a project file.

Minus: browsing of a folders will case change of a project (modified).

Plus: renaming/cloning of a project file in Windows Explorer will remember images folder.

2) In settings of the program.

(Plus/Minus are same but inverted.)

Ken,

You right! My omission.

If the information was stored in the project file then, whenever I double-click on any PTE project file, the folder structure window could be reset to the folder that I last used within that project. I accept that this would mean that any subsequent navigation within the folder tree panel would have to be treated by PTE as a change and therefore I would be prompted to save the project file when exiting PTE. But I wouldn't have to do as much navigation. In fact, once I had selected my first image, I would never need to navigate again for that project.

Thinking about this some more, if we had the feature, in the project file, to be able to nominate a "default folder for image files", this would be enough. If the value had been set by the user, PTE would set up the folder tree panel to point to it when the project file was opened. The project file would change, not when the user navigated to some other folder but only when the user changed the "default folder for image files". If this field had not been set by the user then PTE would behave as it does at present.

Peter

Peter:

I agree with you (again :) )

Like Ken I throw everything into a new folder when working with a PTE, but the odd time I absentmindedly slip to another folder for an "extra".

I would prefer to have the pte file point to the folder I designate.

Also sometimes that folder will change as the show evolves. It can get very big (e.g. when using PhotoShop's layers to create multi-image screens, or upteem sound bites that evolve from mp3 from wav etc etc), or can have a good number of images, or different versions of images, I end up not using and so on.

So I do a zip backup, and start a new "cleaner" folder.

By being able to designate that new folder, life will be much simpler.
